How the leaning tower become leaning

The leaning tower of Pisa, in italy is famous because of its tilt. An inscription on the right hand corner above the entrance said that construction began in 1173. It was built as bell tower to wake up people to go to church or warn them of emergencies. It was or so built to show the  wealth and power of Pisa.

When they got to the 3rd storey the building started to sink because the subsoil was weak and the foundation was not strong or sturdy. As you go up the spiral staircase there are 300 well worn stone steps when you reach to the top you can see a panoramic view of Pisa.

At the top of the tower it should be vertical but it’s not. Now today it is almost 4m where it should be. The tilt was worsening because of the weak subsoil underneath the poorly laid foundation. So they compensated for the tilt by constructing 1 side of the tower taller than the other.    

Immersion Assembly

On Monday the 5th of may was a new term for term 2 & our new topic was I like to move it move it Mr Burt showed us his toy taxi car on taxi car there were balloons attached to it then he told us how many balloons could lift. It took about 16 balloons to lift it. Then we started the assembly by looking at each teams topic.

Team 1’s topic was about how they were going to the zoo, team 2’s topic was about how thing could fly also  how it could work, team 3’s topic was about the flow of colours and how it could turn into rainbow, team 4’s topic was about displacing water (floating or sinking(buoyancy), team 5’s topic was about sounds and how sounds was made.

The 10th Annual Sky Tower Stair Challenge

6 firefighters who walked 303km from Waitangi to Auckland when they reached Auckland they crossed over the harbour bridge. There was a shiny beacon guiding them to the Sky Tower. They raised  money for leukemia.

when the 6 firefighters arrived at the Sky Tower people from Auckland City gave them gifts. The 6 firefighters took part in the 10th annual firefighter challenge the challenge involves 700 firefighters that pushed themself to climb 51 storeys or 1103 steps.

With determination they climbed to the top of the Sky Tower feeling exhausted and with aching muscles. As they reached their goal/destination they felt emotional because they were feeling relieved . Some collapsed from overheating.   

Roomates Who Found $40,000

Three roommates brought a couch for $20 and found $40,000 in banknotes burred inside the couch  and returned it back to the 91 year old man upstate New York widow had hidden it underneath the couch. WABC- TV in New York has proclaims that a State University in New York at New Paltz student and his two roommates found the money loaded in envelopes hidden in the couch they got it from salvation army in march previously.

Student Reese Werkhoven from New York City said he was the one to find the first collected pack of money. Then they started to search the couch and found lots of  packed envelopes in the couch a social worker with the Woodstock Family who shared the same apartment along with two friends in New Paltz from the north of New York City. Directly opening his mouth everybody said was it an a believable amount of money.

The three roommates bought back the couch and a chair for $55 at salvation army then they noticed.    

Echolocation

Echolocation is the use of ultra high beat sound for exploring and locating there prey. Bats and marine mammals are able to use noises to see. It is when a echo rebounds an animal or a object it images some parts of the environment. An echo must be loud enough and short enough so the echo can rebound of an object it sends out another high pitch. Marine mammals like dolphins , whales and some human and birds can use echolocation. 

In some bats that sound are made and sent out by their noses but most send differently by their mouths. The sound rebounds off objects and prey in their surroundings for example insects , fishes , branches and humans and they are picked up by the bats sensitive ears. Even if bats have good eyesight, they depend on the echolocation system to direct them self around as well find their prey. 

Bats can deflect obstacles no wider than a ribbon they can identify the size of an object.

The Pt England Way is a group of values, attitudes and behaviours. We want Pt England School to be a respectful community and The Pt England Way helps us to do this.                          
WHEN IT BEGAN :

In 2000 - 2001.The Pt England Way started . The original name was called Belonging to Pt England the  purpose was to be happy, safe, behave and learn well. Miss Otalani Meleisla, a teacher who used to be at Pt England School  helped write some ideas .      
 
WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE :


The Pt England Way was to get everyone at Pt England used to one another and bond with each other.As our principal Mr Burt says it is our kawa of care, the way we do things is so that we could be happy with one another feel safe and that we learn well.
